

A memorial service, to celebrate the life of Spencer King Penrose, 69 of Newark, will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Hughes officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
Spencer was born in Newark on January 5, 1943 to the late Franklin and Alma (Brown) Penrose. He passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital on February 9, 2012.
Spencer graduated from Watkins Memorial High School, Class of 1961. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Prior to retirement, he worked for the Newark Air Force Base and Boeing as a missile guidance technician. After retiring, he enjoyed working for Christian Lawn Care. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ and attended Christ United Methodist Church. He was active with the Newark Area Emmaus Community. He volunteered for the Licking County Food Pantry and the Salvation Army in Newark. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing lawns, gardening, small engine repair and bluegrass music. He also enjoyed WWII and Civil War history. Spencer had a great sense of humor, loved telling stories and Jokes. He knew no stranger, would drop whatever he was doing to help someone in need, loved everyone he met and was devoted to his wife, family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sally (Handel) Penrose, whom he married May 27, 1967; children, Kathy Wilson, Amy Penrose and Linda Penrose and her fiancé, Jon Hardy; grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Miranda and Mason; great grandson, Lyric; sisters, JoAnn (Ron) Alexander and Sue (Dave) Dodridge; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Irene (Wright) Penrose; brothers, Charles, Richard and Franklin II Penrose; sister, Ruth Dodridge; mother and father-in-law, Archie and Catherine Handel.
