

Stephen A. Sebo, Ph.D., passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026. He was born in Hungary on June 10, 1934 to the late Emery and Elizabeth Sebo. And is survived by his wife Eva, whom he married on May 25, 1968.
Dr. Sebo retired in 2003 from The Ohio State University as Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He joined the university in 1968. His education includes: his M.S.E.E. from Budapest Polytechnical University in Hungary in 1957, and his Ph.D., from the Budapest Polytechnical University and Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1966.
His specific field of study was Electric Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering.
He received many accolades during his career: a 1981 recipient of Edison Electric Institute’s Power Educator Aware, 1982 Best Paper Award of the IEEE Power Engineering Society with Ross Caldecott, in 1982 he was appointed the American Electric Power Professor at The Ohio State University, 1995 he was appointed the Neal A. Smith Professor at OSU, 1994 he was named Technical Person of the Year by Columbus Technical Council; held professional memberships: the Public member of the Power Siting Board of the State of Ohio between 1998 and 2004; authored and co-authored many technical papers.
According to his Curriculum Vitae, Dr. Sebo was a Life Fellow of the IEE and was active in the IEEE Power Engineering Society and in the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society. Even after retirement, he taught the High Voltage Engineering course at OSU until 2015. He was also still active in research and IEEE service in the electric power and high voltage areas.
Guests will be received from 4:00 - 5:00PM on Wednesday, April 29th at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington, where a Memorial Service honoring his life and accomplishments will follow at 5:00PM that afternoon. Life Celebrant, Sean Warren presiding.
