Steven Craig Futrell, 80, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026. Born November 14, 1945, in Troy, Ohio, Steve was the beloved son of the late Donald and Marie (Russell) Futrell. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Jr. Futrell, and his sister, Mariann Migliore.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife and the love of his life, Melissa Evans Futrell, with whom he shared nearly 58 wonderful years of marriage; his daughter, Stephanie McGinty (Tim) of Powell and their daughters, Meredith and Molly; his son, Bryan Futrell of Denver; and his brother-in-law, Len Migliore of Hilliard, Ohio. While Steve achieved remarkable professional success, his greatest pride and joy were always his family. He led them with quiet strength, unwavering love, wisdom, humor, and grace, leaving a legacy that will endure for generations.
Raised in Worthington, Steve graduated from Thomas Worthington High School in 1963, where he excelled academically and was on the golf team, before earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance from The Ohio State University. He later completed advanced banking studies at the University of Oklahoma and Bank One College. Steve also proudly served in the United States Army Reserve from 1967 to 1973, carrying throughout his life the values of integrity, discipline, humility, and service.
A highly respected banking executive and community leader, Steve dedicated more than four decades to a distinguished career in banking. He held leadership roles at City National Bank and Bank One before serving as President and CEO of Bank One in Marion, Ohio; East Lansing, Michigan; and Croghan Colonial Bank in Fremont, Ohio. He earned the trust and admiration of colleagues, clients, and the communities he served, not simply for his accomplishments, but for the fairness, compassion, and integrity with which he led.
In every community he called home, Steve generously devoted his time and talents to charitable (Big Brothers, Big Sisters), civic, educational, and faith-based organizations. His lifelong commitment to service earned him recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. Whether mentoring others, supporting local causes, or quietly helping those in need, Steve led with humility and kindness.
In retirement, Steve and Melissa made their home in The Villages, Florida, where they enjoyed golf, travel, treasured friendships, and time with family. Steve embraced life fully through boating, fly fishing, reading, cultural events, spectator sports, and traveling the world alongside Melissa. He especially cherished the many cruises and adventures they shared together. He was also a faithful member of New Covenant United Methodist Church.
Above all, Steve will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, trusted leader, loyal friend, and a man of integrity, generosity, and grace. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Schoedinger Northwest, followed by a private entombment at Union Cemetery.
