

Ted Lewis Sims, 83, of Circleville, passed away October 31, 2014 at the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born November 12, 1930 in Circleville, the son of Nolan and Stella (Brown) Sims. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Nolan Sims, Jr. and Leon Sims; and sister-in-law, Opal Sims.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patsy Ruth (Toole) Sims, whom he married April 10, 1954; daughters, Lindy (Scott) Barthelmas and Cindy (Don) Valentine of Circleville; sons, Eddie (Lisa) Sims of Circleville and Dan (Kim) Toole of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Kellen Valentine, Kory (Darci) Valentine, Kara (Kyle Davis) Valentine, Kristopher (Katie Haman) Barthelmas, Chad Barthelmas, Amanda Toole, Alex Toole, Malia Sims and Liam Sims; sister-in-law, Betty Sims; several brothers- & sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, including Donnie Morrison who visited Ted often at the VA; also the caregiving staff of Sherman Terrace at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe who have cared for Ted for the past 4 ½ years.
Ted was a 1951 graduate of Circleville High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Rickenbacker Air Force Base (formerly Lockbourne A.F.B.) and Wilmington A.F.B. in Clinton County. Ted also retired from the Pickaway County Engineer Dept. as a night watchman.
Ted was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, AMVETS Post 2256, American Legion Post 134 and VFW Post 3331.
Ted was a huge sports fan, especially his love for the Ohio State Buckeyes. His unique “Buckeye Van” took him to many games over the years with special friends and family.
Ted was a proud member of the Top Hat Softball team, a local team of talented young men who played in the 1950’s.
Ted’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He never missed a sporting event or anything else when it came to his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan!!!!
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Gruver officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery where military services will be provided by AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
