

Thomas Charles Byrne, Sr., died peacefully on December 8, 2015, at the Wesley Village in Wilmore, KY from complications of lung cancer at the age of 89. Tom is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia and his sons and daughters, Debbie (Juan) Bowen, Tim (Sandy), John (Cheryl), Mary (Dan) Lewis, Pat (Chardie) and Matt (Erin); his 16 grandchildren—John (Kirstin) and Elizabeth Bowen, Tommy III (and his mother Febronia), Mark (Maureen), Jessica, Luke, John Paul, Rebecca, Abbie, Bonnie and James Lewis, Caroline, Cecilia, Henry and Lilly; his two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Rayna; and his brother Jimmy (Carol) and sister-in-law Rita. Tom is preceded in death by his parents James and Lillian, his son Tom Jr. and his brother Jack. He was born on November 29, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and then played minor league baseball in the Cleveland Indians organization for several years. Later he launched a long and successful insurance career serving as Branch Manager for Connecticut General in Columbus, Ohio, and then as Vice President at Presidential Life Insurance and President at Continental Life Insurance. Tom was known for his great and abiding love for his wife Pat, his devotion to God and the Catholic Church, his enduring love for his family and his deep commitment to Al-Anon where he was an active member for over 30 years. He was also known for his untiring work ethic, his ability to lead and manage people, and for his quick mind and great sense of humor. He was an avid Buckeyes, Browns and Indians fan and he did his crossword puzzles in pen. He will be missed by all that knew him.
