

Thurman Russell Keen, 80, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on May 27, 2014. Thurman was born on September 8, 1933 in Grundy, Virginia to the late Hobert and Amy Keen. Preceded in death by four sisters (Valey, Net, Ilean, and Betty), and one brother (Dewey). He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty (Featherolf) Keen and children Rusty Keen, David (Donna) Keen, Jay (Gay) Keen, Scott Keen, and Andy Keen; grandchildren TR III, Amy, Dustin, David Jr., Tiffany, Tyanna, Tess, and Matthew. Thurman was blessed with many great-grandchildren and loved them all. From his humble beginnings in Grundy, Virginia working as a miner, Thurman moved to Columbus Ohio and opened his first auto repair shop in 1970. Keen’s Body Shop Inc. opened in 1974 and continues to serve Central Ohio. Thurman served as a cook in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955, he felt very fortunate to have spent time golfing with the good people at Pine Hill golf course. He received exceptional, compassionate and professional care during his stay at The OSU Medical Center. Thurman accomplished many things in his life but none were more important to him than his family. As patriarch of the Keen family, he always made time for the kids, grand kids, and great-grand kids. Family will receive friends Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State St. Columbus, Ohio. Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at DEFENBAUGH-WISE- SCHOEDINGER CHAPEL, 151 E. Main St. Circleville, Ohio, where his service will be held at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Green Summit Cemetery in Adelphi, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Mountain Mission School, 1760 Edgewater Dr., Grundy, VA 24614 and American Cancer Society, 1198 Kenny Centre Mall, Columbus, OH 43220.
