Tim will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends, who were always entertained by his ridiculous stories, quick wit, and memorable one-liners. Tim’s honesty, empathy, and deep sense of loyalty made him a dear friend to the many special people whom he was lucky to have in his life.
Tim (Timmy to some) was born on March 29, 1958 to Jack Kennedy and Anne Kennedy (Berkemer) in Columbus, Ohio.
He was a standout hockey player during his school years and into adulthood, later becoming a carpenter with the Ohio Carpenters Local 200. Tim was beloved by everyone who ever met him. He was a charming grouch who could make anyone laugh with his unique understanding of the world and his way with words, which he would often combine, to hilarious effect, into rants that wouldn’t feel out of place in a stand-up routine. If he boarded a bus that was empty but for one person, he would sit right next to that one person and strike up a conversation. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother, and a best friend to many. He loved reading, watching sports (especially the Blue Jackets, the Bengals, and, of course, The Ohio State Buckeyes), growing his own tomatoes, listening to the great guitar players of his generation, eating medium-rare steaks, and most importantly, enjoying good conversation with the family and friends he kept close to him. His favorite thing about the holiday season was always the Grinch, and that’s how he’ll be remembered by his loved ones: a hopeful cynic, whose sometimes-prickly exterior belied his kind heart and unwavering loyalty.
Tim is survived by his daughter, Amanda Kennedy, his son, Tyler Kennedy, his brother, David Kennedy, his sister, Mary Anne Reilly (Kennedy), and his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Leslie Melmed (Alexander). He leaves behind three grandchildren.
Tim is now at peace, joining his parents and uncles whom he missed.
There will be a celebration of Tim’s life from 3:00 – 5:00pm on Friday, August 4 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221.
If you wish to make a donation in honor of Tim, please consider donating to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
