Una Katherine Cooper, 91, died on Nov. 28, 2013. She was a wise woman with a rare spirit, a hard worker and an extraordinary mother to her 12 children. She loved all children, especially her own. Una had a special rapport with young children and could convince them to do anything. Una loved to paint and her love of color was reflected in her surroundings. Her house was always the hangout for her children's friends. She loved animals and took home many strays. She loved music and had eclectic tastes--Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, Waylon & Willie, Nelson Eddy & Jeanette McDonald, Janis Joplin and Cat Stevens were a few of her favorites. She was an avid indoor gardener and had an ultra-violet thumb.
Una's children have fond memories of skillet-sized pancakes, homemade donuts, snow ice cream, midnight walks in the snow, her radiant smile, her dry sense of humor, the twinkle in her eyes, the way she drove and the way she held a bat. She was always a lady. Our lives were all enriched by her special beauty and the world is poorer without her. She will be missed greatly.
Una is survived by her children: Jessica Porterfield (Tom) of Logan; Mary Cooper of Ashland; Martha Logue of Columbus; Peter Cooper of California; Jonathan Cooper of Colorado; James Cooper of Sunbury; Elizabeth Brown (Jeff) of Westerville; Sarah Parkhurst (Jeff) of Columbus; Matthew Cooper of Sunbury; Samuel Cooper of Columbus; Thomas Cooper (Kim) of Powell; and Amalia Cooper of Columbus. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her special friend Suzanne (Blue-Eyes), her niece and cousins.
The family would like to thank the special staff at Country View of Sunbury and the staff of Tridia for their extraordinary care of Una in her last days. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to any animal shelter, as Una was especially fond of cats. Una requested no funeral services, but a celebration of her life will be held on December 7, 2013 at the Holiday Inn Worthington, 7007 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio, 43085 from 2p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Morrison Room.
