

Velma Sater Williams, passed away peacefully in Columbus, Ohio, on April 16, 2016. She was born on October 16, 1930, the daughter of the late Velma Stevens Sater and Richard Francis Sater. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David F. Williams, son William S. (Celeste) Williams, daughter Patricia W. (Mark) French of Columbus, Ohio, daughter Elizabeth Williams (Thomas Ayres) of Boulder, Colorado, and four grandchildren: David W. French, Andrea F. (Garrett) Wofford, Elizabeth and Drake Williams. Survived by her brother, Frederic S. Sater of New York City and his two sons, Stefan and Anders Sater. Also survived by her brother-in-law W. Peter Williams of Columbus, Ohio, and sister-in-law Barbara Williams of Wooster, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from the Columbus School for Girls class of 1948, Bradford Junior College and the Ohio State University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was a lifelong member of the Broad Street Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon. Velma served on Boards of the Arthritis Foundation of Central Ohio, Children's Hospital and the Columbus School for Girls. She was also active in Twig #2, the Children's Hospital Women's Board and their Auxiliary Council. She enjoyed her work on the Columbus Museum Women's Board and the Childhood League Board V. She served as Chairman of Scioto Country Club's Women's Golf Association and loved playing golf and bridge with her many friends in Columbus as well as the Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples, Florida. A memorial service will be held at the Broad Street Presbyterian Church, 760 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. A private family burial at Amaranth Abbey in Union Cemetery will be at a later date.
