

Wayne C. Murphy, age 74, of Upper Arlington passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at his home. Wayne was born in Nashville, TN on August 22, 1936; he was the son of the late Clifford and Rosa Lee Murphy. Wayne was also preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Scott, Joyce Dixon and Avis Murphy; and grandson, Ryan Murphy. He is survived by his devoted children, Beth (Norman) McCloskey, Mark (Jill) Murphy, Chris (Linda) Murphy and Amanda (Olivier) Murphy; grandchildren, Molly McCloskey, Abby McCloskey, Taylor Harding, Jarrett Harding and Chas Murphy; and many nieces and nephews in Colorado, Oregon, Alaska, Georgia and Tennessee. Wayne is a graduate of The Ohio State University earning a Masters Degree in Education Administration. He served as a school teacher in Tennessee and Ohio from 1958-1968, and was on the Ohio Youth Commission. Wayne was an Assistant State 4-H Leader at the Ohio State University and Youth Director at the Metropolitan Schools Committee. From 1981-1987 he was the Director of Court Services for the Franklin County Juvenile Court. Wayne was the Director of Public Services for Gahanna and Hilliard Cities for over 17 years before retiring from the city of Hilliard in 2005. He was very active in the Central Ohio Radio Reading Service and was an avid reader and writer. Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 1-3pm with a memorial service at 3pm at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221.
