William Allen Archer, age 95, passed away at home on Tuesday, Jan 13. Bill was born to Ford and Deane Archer, in Noble County, OH, on December 28, 1919. After graduation from Summerfield High School, Bill moved to Columbus and, after marrying his sweetheart, Dorothy May Lott in 1942, entered the Army and shipped to England, where he served two years in WWII, with the First Infantry Division, where he earned five Bronze Stars. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and landed at Normandy three day after D-Day, then spent time in Germany before returning home. Once back, Bill studied the building trades, became a certified welder and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 189 for over 60 years. In later years, he was active with many friends at the Evans Senior Center in Grove City. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy, to whom he dedicated 15 years of selfless care after a tragic accident in 1990 left her wheelchair-bound. He was also preceded by his brothers, Virgil (Pearl), Leighton, Donald (Geneva) and David (Martha Mary), sister, Mary Evelyn Scott (Jim), daughter Corinne Breece and sister-in-law Jean Suver Cinci. He is survived by son Kevin (Phyllis) Archer, daughters, Melody Shull and Tammy (Fred) Rutter, grandsons, Marty (Jennifer) Shull, Drake (Lori) Archer, Grant (Tara) Archer, Brian Archer, Jason (Meghan) Beard and great-grandsons, Will and Joe Shull, Lincoln Beard and Emerson Archer and sister-in-law Margaret Archer, as well as many nieces, nephews and step-great-grandsons and daughters. Another member of The Greatest Generation has been lost, but at his request, there will be no public service. In honor of his service to his county, may we suggest a contribution to Disabled American Veterans, or the Wounded Warriors Project. Arrangements have been entrusted to the SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 614-875-6333. Please visit www.Schoedinger.com to share a memory of William.
