

William J. Zapf was born on November 29, 1926 in Rochester, New York, first son of Jerome and Claribel Zapf. Brother Jerry followed and still resides in Rochester with wife Mary Ellen and family. Bill died on February 16, 2013 at Mother Angeline McCrory. On June 28, 1947 Bill married Elaine Freeman in Rochester, New York and the two were blessed with 66 years of marriage. In 1958 Bill, Elaine and their children moved to Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and American Legion Post #797 in Gahanna. Bill is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Matthew Havens. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Pamela (James) Pickett, Gary (Lori) Zapf, Teresa (Jeff) Gallo and Colleen Havens; 14 wonderful grandchildren and many adorable great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at St. Matthew the Apostle, 807 Havens Corners Rd. Family will receive friends from 4-8 P.M. Monday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., where the rendering of military honors will begin at 7:30 P.M. Father Theodore K. Sill, Celebrant.
