Winona Smith, 99, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Pickaway Manor in Circleville. She was born December 10, 1917 in Ashville, Ohio, the daughter of Archie and Hazel (Rutherford) Peters. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters and their husbands Mary (Ben) Dickerson, Hazel (Dan) Minnich and Zora (Ralph) McCain; brother-in-law James Pickering; and nephew James Pickering.
Winona is survived by her sister Marjorie Pickering; nieces and nephews.
Winona was a graduate of Walnut Twp. High School and Capital University. She was a high school mathematics teacher at Frankfort, Ohio and Xenia, Ohio. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Winona’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 25, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6046 St. Paul Rd., Ashville, with Pastor John Stroup officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Reber Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Circlevillle.
