

George William Tompkins passed away May 8, 2023 at the Buckingham Rehabilitation Center in Norwood, NJ after a brief illness. He was born on November 24, 1946 in Yonkers, NY. He is survived by his sister, Edith, Brother, Thomas and two nephews, George and Nicholas. He is predeceased by his Parents, George and Anna.
George is survived by his wife of 31 years, Louise Nalback, nee Orecchio, his step-children James Nalback (Frances), Michael Nalback (Catherine_) and Laura Nalback. Also his step-grandchildren, Madison, Nicholas, Rhiannon (Christian) Terwilliger, Rachel, Genna and McCartney.
George volunteered as an EMT for Congers-Valley Collage VAC. He was also a Lieutenant Critical Care Technician at Rockland Mobile Care. George was previously employed as a technician at Dictaphone in NYC setting up logging equipment for 911 calls. George served in the Army (1967-1971), he was a Lieutenant during the Viet Nam War.
One of George’s favorite things to do was collect doo wop music. He was a radio personality on 90.7 WFUV-FM out of Fordham University for 49 years. He was known as George Doo Wop Tompkins. He loved his music and was a life-long collector of vocal group harmony records.
A visitation for George will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service, 113 Lake Rd. E., Congers, New York 10920. A funeral mass will occur Friday, May 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church, 82 Lake Rd., Congers, NY 10920.
