

It is with painful hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald Woods on January 6, 2026 after a courageous battle with COPD. Gerald was born on February 19, 1942 in Bronx, New York to Rose and Michael Woods.He married the love of his life,Mary, in St.Luke’s Church on September 21, 1963.
Gerry moved from the Bronx with his family in 1966 to Stony Point, New York, where he resided until his passing.Through the years, Gerry could be found cheering on the New York Rangers and New York Yankees. He also loved spending time with his children, taking his family camping to the Jersey Shore, Myrtle Beach and St. Augustine, Florida.
He enjoyed getting into his shiny black truck with the trailer behind and traveling to campgrounds in various states. Gerry loved sitting around the campfire telling stories to his children and making them laugh whenever he could. He always had a smile and was cheerful in every situation.
Gerry was a proud member of the New York City Police Department where he worked as a firearms and tactical instructor. He loved his job. After he retired, he became a school bus driver in Rockland County. He enjoyed being with the children, bringing them back and forth every day.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Mary,Son Gerald(Maureen),Son Michael (Colleen), Daughter Patricia Ross (Vincent), and Son William (Mary). He will always be PopPop to grandchildren Christopher (RIP), Conor, Caleigh, Sean, Tara, Aine, Eilish, Roisin, Liam, Kieran, Aidan, and Colleen. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Peterson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Gerry is predeceased by his parents, brother, Sacred Heart Brother Thomas, brother Michael(Eileen), sister Catherine Tierney(Thomas), and brother William.
Family will receive friends at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Services, 113 Lake Rd. East, Congers, NY 10920 on Sunday, January 11, 2026 from 3 – 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 26 John St. Stony Point, NY,followed by internment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
