John M. Schnalzer 86, passed peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on March 16, 2012. John was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 1925. He served as an altar boy at Holy Spirit Church in the Bronx. John proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine in both WW II and the Korean conflict. John worked for the NYFD for 25 years then retired as a captain of 48 Truck. He was happily married, and survived by, to the love of his life Madeline for 58 years. He is also survived by his beloved sons John Jr., Thomas, James (Lynn) and Paul (Mary Ellen); 9 adoring Grandchildren Meghan, Jennifer, Nicole, Kaitlyn, Danielle, Alexis, Kristin, Stephen and Scott; 1 Loving Great Grandchild, Danica; and cherished sister Elizabeth Oliveri. John was pre deceased by brothers, Steve and Freddie. Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 at Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, 11:15am, at St. Paul’s Church, Congers, NY followed by interment at Rockland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Helen Hayes Hospital Foundation, Route 9W, Haverstraw, NY 10993.
