Her passing was peaceful, surrounded by family in her own home in Congers, New York. She is survived by her daughter Maureen McKiverkin (Phil), her son Billy Sullivan (Tara), son-in-law Michael Beirne, sisters Maureen Mason and Margaret Alonso, and her nine grandchildren.Ruthie was born in the Bronx,New York on November 10, 1947 to Jim Flynn (County Down) and Mary Maguire (County Leitrim). She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Sullivan, daughter Deidre Beirne, brother Hugh Flynn, parents Jim and Mary Flynn.
The life of Ruth Sullivan was a "Life Well Lived".Through her many decades, she thoroughly enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities, especially their athletic endeavors--a very active/animated supporter who was loud and proud!Ruthie was in her element when celebrating a love for her Irish Heritage with family and friends--Baileys Irish cream, a cup of tea, and a slice of Irish soda bread were soul soothing! She possessed a strong will and an independent, adventurous spirit. Ruthie gave a whole new meaning to "Road Trip"-- anytime, day or night, she would pack it up and hit the road! Her journeys to the beautiful beaches of North Carolina and the rolling landscape in the Catskill Mountains were her Happy Places--filled with peace, love and laughter. Ruthie wore many "hats" throughout her journey of life: wife, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, friend, in-law, animal lover, daycare provider, business owner, bus driver, owner/operator of 227 "The Sullivan Inn" and Chauffeur Service! Mom, Mother-In-Law and Nanny were the hats worn most often and with tremendous pride. Her greatest love, pride and joy will forever and always be her 3 children/their spouses and her 9 grandchildren. Nanny's 9, a term of endearment for her 9 grandchildren born in 5 years, now range in age from 16-21.She has always been the anchor, the voice of reason, the beacon of light in the lives of the McKiverkin Family, the Sullivan Family, and the Beirne Family. Mom/Nanny has consistently kept the ship afloat through the ebb and flow of life, no matter how high or low the tide may be.
Through the years,Ruthie continuously opened her heart and her home to all, 227 South Harrison Avenue in Congers,New York was a second home and a safe haven for many. She has been known and beloved by so many for infinite reasons. Her listening ear, her kind/compassionate heart and her never ending generosity blessed the lives of those fortunate enough to be in her company. Ruth Ann Sullivan/Ruthie/Mom/Nanny will forever and always be missed. Her life calling was executed to perfection--a model of unwavering faith, grace and strength in all matters. Through her words of wisdom, devotion to her "Team of Saints" and her ability to "Let Go and Let God" lead "One Day at a Time" she taught us all some of the most valuable life lessons. She has earned an eternal place in the hearts of many. How blessed we all are to have had her in our lives!
