Sonia Capone

(January 10, 1932 – December 25, 2025)

Sonia M Capone, beloved wife to Rocco Capone and mother to Gina Capone, of Congers, New York, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill.

She was born in the town of Guardiagrele in the providence of Chieti in the region of Abruzzi Italy. She was born

January 10, 1932, to Orlandina and Gino Zulli. Sonia also has one sister, Teresa who was her best friend for their entire lives.

Sonia came to the United States as a child of age 6 in 1938. Sonia attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx New York, before going to work at Scott Foresman Publishing Company as a secretary.

When she was introduced to Rocco Capone by her brother-in-law Silvio Mazzaferro, she knew she had met the person with whom she would build a life and a family. They were married June 8, 1957. Sonia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years and is survived by her daughter Gina who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

Sonia was a devoted mother to Gina, her pride and joy. She always said their birth changed her life for the better, and Gina felt that in the love and support she provided. Sonia cherished her family and friendships, with most of these lasting the rest of her life. She adored her nieces and nephews who were like her own children.

Sonia took special joy in her cat’s Pepsi and Lucky. They brought her extraordinary joy and many fond memories. Sonia was also known for being a fine cook. She delighted in preparing tasty foods to share with her family and friends. Her specialty was Italian foods of course!

Sonia lived a long life full of wonderful experiences as well as a loving family, and many good friends. She truly embodied the adage of a life well lived.

The funeral services for Sonia will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Higgins Funeral Services 113 Lake Rd, Congers NY 10920.

The viewing is 9:00am-11:00am. Sonia will be interred at Gethsemane Cemetery, Rockland Lake Rd, Rockland County NY.
