Barbara D. Lackey, 74, formerly of the Springersville community, died Sunday evening, January 31, 2016, at her residence in Richmond. Barbara was born in Shelbyville, February 21, 1941, to James and Lorene Lambert Cook. From her childhood throughout her life raising her children, she was a hard worker. Barbara was dedicated to her family while gardening, canning, baking bread and caring for the many farm animals. She earned her General Education Degree late in life and became a Licensed Practical nurse and later a Registered Nurse while working and attending Ivy Tech. For over twenty years, she was employed at Reid Hospital in the acute rehab, surgical and medical surgical floors prior to her retirement. Barbara was well known as a compassionate, humble person and had been recognized as a Reid Ambassador. She had also been employed at Reliable Machine near Springersville and Mace’s Grocery in Connersville. Barbara is survived by her children: Connie Lindsay of Connersville, Earl Lackey and his wife, Teresa of Wayne County; Randy Lackey and his partner, Loretta Thompson of Springersville; her grandchildren: Tyler Lindsay of Brooklyn, New York and Alissa Lackey of Wayne County; her great grandson: Zaden Alexander Lindsay; two brothers: Ralph Cook and his wife, Debbie; Warren “Skip” Archey, Jr. and his partner, Amy Perry, all of Connersville; nieces, nephews; a close family friend: Jim Gross of Richmond; and her dogs, Sugar and Sammy, who meant the world to her. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Lackey who died in 1986; two grandsons: Brenen Lindsay, who died May 7, 2008; Arie W. Lackey, who died April 18, 2015; and a sister: Pamela Wood. A Memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Brother Dan Parker, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, following cremation. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the family.
