I want to share my deep appreciation of Meg. I often think about Meg because I will never forget meeting her on my way to class. She was truly an angel on earth! Through a casual conversation, she learned my father had kidney failure and she went above and beyond to support my dad obtain a kidney transplant within the same year. That transplant allowed my family and I to spend another 10 years with my father before he passed away. Meg, my family will forever be grateful to you for being such a blessing to us.

We just heard the sad news.  We did not know.  Our hearts break.  Meg had such a wonderful way to make everyone feel comfortable and special.  She will be missed.  Her spirit and great sense of humor will live on.  Our thoughts are with Charlie and her entire family.

I just received an e-mail from GTF that included this information.  Meg is one of the first people I met at Emory when I started my workup for a kidney transplant.  She was my transplant coordinator at that time.

I am so very sad to hear of her passing.  She made me (as a patient) feel comfortable and to feel free to ask any questions and always had or found out the answers.  

She was truly an excellent nurse that was caring of her patients and ever so considerate of everyone.  She touched so many lives with her beautiful smile and kindness.  

Family, you were so blessed to have such a wonderful person.  Meg will be greatly missed by everyone that had the honor to know her.

I just found out about Meg. I am so sorry for this terrible loss. I met Meg 10years ago at Emory where we were both in the same orientation group. We hit it off immedicately. Anytime I see Meg we gave each other a big smile and a hug and introduced each other as orientation partners and we always said "we are still here". I am in such shock and I am going to miss that uplifting smile and warm embrace. I will never forget Meg. May God grant her eternal peace and comfort her entire family.

We were so shocked and saddened to hear about Meg passing away.  She was the kindest person we have ever met and made such a difference to us when my husband donated a kidney to his sister. For several reasons I love to read obituaries. I find them touching and inspiring. I'm so glad I read them on May 13th. I was a nurse at Piedmont and worked in the Float Pool in 1988-1990. I worked on the Transplant Floor frequently and so remember Meg there. She was always friendly, pleasant, upbeat, supportive and such the professional. I am so, so sorry for your loss.

Dear Charlie and Gazzola family,
As you know, Meg was one of my very best friends.  You may not know that we  met at a Junior League of Atlanta event where one of us had to wear a frog costume.  She convinced me to wear it first and when her turn came, she asked me if I would still wear it since my hair was already messed up.  She promised to ply me with as many Diet Cokes as I wanted.  How could I say no to that?!  
We soon became fast friends and were in each other's weddings.  This was no small accomplishment for Meg as I had moved to Ireland by this time.  But that was Meg and she was there with Charlie and all the enthusiasm and friendliness that is her trademark-all of Ireland loved her.  
She was godmother to one of our twin boys' and arrived over again for another visit to help me out as a new mother of twins, after departing the UK and helping her sister Liz after Meaghan was born. There was never a birthday or a holiday that a card and/or gift wasn't in the mail from "Auntie Meggie".
And it was only a little over a year ago that she was consoling me and drove to Tampa to attend my dad's funeral mass.  
She has been the best friend to me that I have ever had.  For this I will be forever grateful. Because of this I will try to be a better friend.

Dear Friends & Family of Meg, 
I wanted to let everyone know how I heard about Meg's passing. It was rather unusual. I live in NC and was having trouble sleeping on the night of May 12. I opened my laptop to surf the web. I had recently saved the Atlanta Journal/Constitution to a bookmarked page and turned there to read the headlines as I had lived in Atlanta 22 years before moving here. For some morbid reason, I clicked on the obituary page and scrolled down to see the name Jeffrey. I thought I may have stumbled upon a relative of Charlie's. The name "Mary" Jeffrey sounded like a sister or cousin. What are the odds?, I thought to myself. Then I clicked on the obituary and could not read past the first line --several times, and then I tried several times to read the complete obituary but I never could finish it. Then I called Larry and Charlie in the middle of the night. Charlie later said the obituary had only been online several hours before I found it. I was on the first morning flight to Atlanta. I couldn't calm down that Meg was gone. I knew the first thing Meg would want was for me to see her father and then visit Charlie. Kobe, Meg's dog greeted me like I was his best friend.

Do you see it also? Meg was informing me of her own death!This incredible person I went to nursing school with, was up in heaven planning her own funeral, right down to the invitation list! Meg the planner! Meg who was always so thoughtful about remembering a birthday or bringing my son a book was inviting me to her funeral. She knew the grief I suffered with my husbands sudden death by a drunk driver many years ago. We joked that I was a grief "professional." I know she wants me to help her loved ones through this. She was in my wedding and I was humbled & honored to be in hers. I am dedicated to all of her family and friends as they pass through this journey of grief. 
 
Remember the movie "Paying It Forward?" Well, perhaps all us whose lives were touched by Meg will want to remember her in the many opportunities to turn Meg's presence into a-thousand-points-of-light, when: we buy someone lunch, help someone find their car in a parking lot, let someone cry on our shoulder, or bring some brownies to a friend in need. Perhaps we need to step up to the plate like she did so many times to host another shower or birthday or christening, call on the bereaved, give someone a tour of Atlanta, give hope to a despondent patient or delight a little child. I for one, have already begun.  I will try to post photos of Meg soon. Hugs!

What a horrible shock! Whenever I ran into Meg in the hallway at Emory, she aways remembered me, even though our professional contact had been small. She glowed and made you feel better in the world, just by her presence. I do not know her religious beliefs, but if anyone ever appeared to have the presence of God in her soul, she certainly did!

I'm so sad to hear of Meg's death.  She was such a warm and generous person. 

For a wedding present Meg and Charlie were the "caterers" for our rehearsal dinner.  Many people are surprised by that but people who knew Meg well are not surprised at all.  When we had a death in our family she was there at once to express her sympathy, bringing with her a book  she thought might help and something she had baked.  Meg babysat our children when they were small so that we could have a night out.  When I was on my own packing for our move to England, she came by to visit and to help me.

I'm so sad not to have been able to attend her funeral.  I wish I could have been of some help to you Charlie, as I know Meg would have done that for me.  We'll be thinking of you and saying a prayer for all who loved Meg.

Meg - I am at a total loss to express what she has meant to my life and that of my daughter's.  We had so many wonderful, crazy, heartbreaking and heart Uplifting times together.  Her "everyready bunnie" approach to life was infectious and her love for all in her life was inspiring.  Meg never, ever "didn't have time" for you.  She encouraged your dreams, held your hand during tough times, remembered the important dates and most of all - loved unconditionally.  So many will miss her - greatly.  I will carry her in my heart- forever.

Meg or Aunt Meggie to me was a loving person who always sent us boxes and never forgot a birthday or even our neighbors anniversary. I had always pictured in my head her sitting in the front row as I got my diploma and watching me grow up. She never will in human form but I know she'll watch me from her place in heaven with my Grandma Aggie. I'll never forget her and we'll keep her memories alive as if she was still here.

I met Meg at Emory, when she was a coordinator, before being evaluated for my kidney transplant, and in the years since, I came to know her through volunteering at a variety of events along side her. From signing up organ donors for "Donate Life" Month to pouring wine at fundraisers to playing bingo with the kids at Egelston Hospital, I was always amazed with the energy,  enthusiasm, and love she brought to everything she did. She radiated so much compassion and caring for other, always giving comepletely and genuinely of herself, an example by which I hope we all can live.

I will miss her smile and energy dearly, but I feel so blessed to have have had Meg as a part of my life. My deepest sympathies to the Gazzola and Jeffrey families.

Meg was my nurse aftr my kidney transplant in 1989.  The first night that the predinose "hit" I cried so hard and Meg just kept saying, "oh, you're fine, it's just the meds!" I kept saying that to myself for the next several months!  I was blessed to cross paths with her a few times at conferences after that and she always knew me, greeted me with a hug and that big smile. I'm just devastated and can't believe Meg's gone. She was so very sweet, friendly, and fun. We were roommates back in 1984-86. We had some fun trips together too. I always teased her about talking to anyone and everyone. Once in Spain she said to a couple, "you're American, so are we!" and they ended up giving us a ride to another town. 
She will be dearly missed, and I'm so sorry for your tremendous loss.

Meg was an amazing person - always willing to help.  I worked with Meg for many years at Piedmont Hospital.  She was always smiling and the patients loved her dearly.  She would go out of her way to help in any situation.  I remember how she opened her home (near the hospital) to any staff who needed a place to stay when ice storms would hit Atlanta.  
May you all be comforted by the endless memories of her warmth and charm and by knowing that she is in God's hands until we all get to see her again one day.

Meg was a very dear friend of my Aunt Betsy. When I moved to Atlanta to start PA school at Emory she took me in like I had been her best friend forever (which is see is a trend). Meg and I met during a Nephrology Conference and I felt as if I had known her my entire life. Meg truly lived her life as an example to others and I am a better person for having had her in my life. I am shocked and deeply saddened that she has left us so suddenly. We will have a Memorial for her at Central Georgia Technical College Hemodialysis Class Pinning Ceremony on June 15th at 7:30pm in Macon, GA. We also plan to continue an annual "DONATE LIFE" event that Meg helped me to establish.  This event will be held each April in memory of her. Meg was truly one of a kind.

My condolences to the Jeffrey family.  I worked with Meg at the Emory Transplant Center on our outreach initiatives.  Meg astounded me on a daily basis!  Her compassion towards patients, co-workers, the transplant community, and just the average person lost on the Emory campus was overwhelming.  She truly cared about everyone.

She had an amazing heart and her gift was truly compassion.  She was always involved in one thing or another and everybody loved her.

Meg, you will be missed.  I'm certain you are in Heaven "reorganizing" things and fussing over everyone there.  You taught me how to open my heart up again.
