

It is with great sadness that we announce that Gillian James Red Bull, 56, has journeyed on to the spirit world on June 7, 2025 in Florence, Arizona. He was born on November 17, 1968 to the late Maynard and Effie Loafer Joe Red Bull in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
He will be lovingly remembered by his companion Lynelle Blackwater, sons Maste Weldon Red Bull and Wakinyan James Red Bull, stepdaughter Utahna Lyn Blackwater, stepsons Dylan Blackwater and Thomas Rodriguez, as well as 4 grandchildren, of Blackwater, Arizona. He is survived by sisters, Claudia Zuniga, Brenda Red Bull, Elizabeth Red Bull, and Adelle Red Bull, from Pine Ridge and Red Scaffold, South Dakota, as well as his close relatives Letitia Holmes and Inez Iron Hawk, from Red Scaffold, South Dakota. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended relatives. James was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ohitika Daniel Red Bull, sister Henrietta Two Bulls and brothers Weldon LaPointe and Frank LaPointe.
James grew up in Red Scaffold, South Dakota. He gained great knowledge from his grandfather Edward James Red Bull. After high school, he worked as a ranch hand before going to Kicking Horse Job Corps in Montana. He moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1993 where he remained until 2012, later relocating to Blackwater, Arizona. He worked as a welder and handyman.
During his younger years, James enjoyed playing basketball, listening to music, cookouts at the Salt River, road trips back home, wood chopping, auto mechanics and sharing childhood memories. He loved to sing and speak in his Lakota language. His family will be forever grateful for the Lakota teachings and way of life that he shared with them. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, and carefree lifestyle.
