Don was the best neighbor anyone could have!  He was SUCH a sweet man.  I miss him very much. He has left behind a legacy of love and appreciation for life, that is for sure.  My heart goes out to his lovely family...

Ortler family, I was so sad to hear of the loss of your Grandfather especially in light of all of the celebratory occasions happening in your family right now. 
It is so great that he got to meet little Charlie Kay :-)

Mr. Ortler,
Words cannot express the appreciation that I have for you.  I am honored that you chose me to be part of the Coon Rapids Womens Softball team.  Everytime I put on that uniform I was so proud to be part of such a class team.  Being a part of that team helped me become the woman that I am today.  It taught me how to compete in a respectible manner to the best of my ability.  You are simply one of the nicest people that ever walked on this earth. I have thought of of Coach Ortler often over the years.  I have such great memories of playing ball for him and appreciate all the life lessons he also taught us.  I have since made that transition from player to coach and he is my role model of what kind of coach I strive to be!  
I know he will be missed greatly by family and friends, may God be with them!!

I was fortunate to be asked by Mr. Ortler to play for him on his Coon Rapids women’s softball team in the late ‘70’s, early ‘80’s.  What an amazing coach he was.  Playing at Sand Creek Park and the many weekend tournaments, what fun!  The most memorable being Duluth; every year, the weekend before school started, up we’d go to Duluth – rain or shine.  One game I remember - it was raining so hard Mr. Ortler had a garage broom and would have to sweep the water off of home plate after each batter.  Mr. Ortler loved to win as all of his players did.  I learned so much about softball from Mr. Ortler and I thank him.  

Years later while golfing at Hidden Haven, I saw Mr. Ortler.  While golfing, he came out as the club’s Ranger to see how we were doing.  At that time I was looking for my “miss-hit” golf ball.  I will tell you the kind of man Mr. Ortler was, as the Ranger, instead of telling us to hurry along, he helped me look for my ball.

To the Ortler family, Our sympathy to all of you in this sorrowful time. Don is now enjoying "his cabin" in heaven with his beautiful wife forever. God Bless all of you.

Deb,Although I only knew your father casually. My fishermans senses tell me that your Dad was one of those "once in a blue moon" guys that cross your path.May the blessings and peace of God be with you and your family in this time of sorrow and loss.

We will certainly miss Don and his stories at the lake.  Don always looked forward to his family members visiting him, especially Dani and Deb.  He was the kindest man we know.  We enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the lake and sharing a beer while he told us the lastest stories about Dani's and Deb's up North adventures.  Don, thank you for being a great neighbor and friend .   We will continue to live by your motto, "What happens at the cabin, stays at the cabin."

We will always remember the wonderful time we had last year up at the beautiful lake house.  Don was so kind and thoughtful and was such a gracious host.  My girls thought he was the nicest man and he most definitely was.  Thank you Don for the memories.
