John Joseph Maier, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2025 in his Coon Rapids residence. He was born on December 5, 1954, to Hilary “Larry” and Lucille Maier in Minneapolis, MN. John was the oldest of four siblings; two sisters (Linda and Jane) and one brother (Randy). He grew up in St. Cloud after his father’s passing from a plane crash. He graduated from St. Cloud Apollo High School in 1973 and received an associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Drafting from Jackson Technical College in 1975.
John dedicated over 29 years to Medtronic as a Mechanical Designer where his contributions were a testament to his hard work and commitment to a career he was very passionate about. He was also awarded two patents with engineering colleagues on medical leads. Throughout his life, he also had a passion for motorcycle riding, serving as President for Minnesota Voyager Association, spending time in his cabin and on the lake, working on cars, and raising multiple dogs all of which brought him joy and a sense of fulfillment.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Randy.
John is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Roxanne Maier; his children, Jonathan (Anastasia) Maier and Jessica Maier; and his four cherished grandchildren, Mary Mengel, Micheal Behrens, Markos Maier, and Sia Maier. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Gearhart Funeral Home (11275 Foley Blvd. NW., Coon Rapids) Visitation 10:00 am until time of service.
