Margaret Adair Schmidt

Graveside services, under the direction of Gearhart Funeral Home Coon Rapids, will be held Friday, April 29, 2016 at 2:30pm at Morningside Memorial Gardens, 11800 University Ave NE, Coon Rapids.

Margaret was born in 1935 to Grant and Elizabeth in Mitchell, SD. She was educated in the Mitchell public schools. To help pay school expenses she did babysitting and worked in a drive-in restaurant. She also helped her sister, Dorothy, on the farm for several summers, taking care of the children and sewing clothes for them.

After graduating from high school, she married Nickolas Kowall in Mitchell, SD. They moved to Minneapolis, MN and she worked for a number of years in dry cleaning shops doing alterations and repairs. One daughter, Suzanne E. was born to this union. After Nick passed away at an early age, she married Donald Schmidt. They were married for 35 years until he passed away in 2000.

Margie established her own business. She was a skilled dressmaker and designer. She could and did make everything from bridal gowns and attendants’ dresses to draperies. She also did re-upholstery work.

Margie was preceded in death by both her husbands; five brothers; and two sisters. Margie is survived by her daughter, Suzanne E. Sharp; grandson, Kelly Sharp; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Donna McDonald and Delores Jorgensen.
