Marion was born in Bonn, Germany on March 27, 1967, to her parents Konrad and Bärbel Mauersberger. She came to the United States at the age of 2 when Konrad had the opportunity to work on a physics research project for one year at the University of Minnesota. One year turned into 25 years as Marion grew up in multiple locations in the Twin Cities. The Mauersbergers ultimately settled in Golden Valley where Marion graduated from Armstrong High School in 1985. Following high school, she enrolled at the University of Minnesota and majored in psychology. During college she worked at the Dinkytown McDonalds where she may have unknowingly served her future husband lunch between classes. She graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree.
After college, Marion worked at Wells Fargo. She started as a teller, moved to teller supervisor, and then wrote and presented courses in their training department. At the age of 28, much to her surprise, her sister, Kristina, placed a personal ad for Marion in the newspaper that would change her life forever. After sifting through the chaff of responses she found a gem named Kevin. They were married on September 13, 1997. Marion left Wells Fargo after their first child was born.
On March 19, 2000, Marion gave birth to her first daughter, Katelyn (Katie). Three years later, on January 20, 2003, she gave birth to Laura. Marion truly adored her daughters, celebrating their successes and working with them as they grew. As Katie approached school age, Marion made the decision to homeschool. She had always dreamed of being a teacher and now she had her chance. One of her proudest accomplishments was homeschooling both girls from preschool to high school graduation.
Marion was active in her church, Coon Rapids Free Church, from the time she was married to the very end. She had God-given desire, motivation, skills, and faith that she used to positively impact her church in many ways over the years. One of her true passions was Bible reading and Scripture memory. She organized church-wide efforts to encourage the congregation to join along with her. Over the last few years, her efforts were focused on women’s ministry where she volunteered to lead the Women’s Ministry Team. Marion had a deep impact on the women of the church as she encouraged them to grow in their faith through teaching and events. But it was mutual, as these women also had a profound impact on her.
Marion was preceded in death by her aunt Christiane Fech, brother-in-law Dan Erickson, and father-in-law Marvin Erickson.
Marion is survived by her husband of 27 years Kevin Erickson, daughters Katie and Laura; parents Konrad and Bärbel Mauersberger; sister Kristina Mauersberger (Tim Anderson); brother-in-law Dave (Miriam) Erickson, sister-in-law Kathy (Dan) Powley, and sister-in-law Heather Erickson. She also leaves behind many extended family members of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces/nephews and grandnieces/nephews who she loved and who dearly loved her.
In lieu of sending flowers, memorial gifts can be made in Marion’s name to Feed My Starving Children where she volunteered many hours.
