It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our earthly father, Richard “Dick” Erren Berg, 86, on July 7, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota following a brain bleed from an aneurism 3 days prior at his home in Andover. Born in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, dad was tuning up the preacher’s car when he was a mere boy. He had a knack for fixing anything that was broken. Those were some good skills to have when you have 6 children to raise. He was an amazing diesel mechanic, working for International Harvester until they changed to Navistar. He retired from North Star International. He was gifted as a mechanic, and if you were lucky enough, he might just work on your car.
He married our mom, Darlene on February 20, 1960 and dad wanted a large family, mom was not sold on that, but she apparently loved children, because she bore 6 of us and took us out to see the world in our many camping trips.
Richard is survived by his sister Charlotte Watzl (Ed), his sister-in-law Carol Brown (Jim), his children: Dean Berg (Kim), Debbie Woodward (Steve Bulluck), David Berg (Kim), Don Berg, Denny Berg (Francine), Diana Berg, grandchildren: Kristina Grotjohn (Justin), Joey Berg, Trinity Rekow (Jordan), Travis Hare, Great-grandchildren: Isabel and Aurora, and many beloved great nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Ida Berg, his wife Darlene of 62 years when she passed in 2022, his siblings Les Berg (Jackie), Alan Berg (Beverly), Ron Berg, Russell Berg, and special people we may have not mentioned.
While we are heartbroken, we are comforted in knowing dad was a believer and a member of New Hope Community Church of Isanti for over 8 years, and he knew and loved Jesus.
It should also be mentioned that daddy was an avid walker at the YMCA of Andover, where my sister Diana made sure to get him there so he could walk with his buddies every morning. Those of you who don’t know, dad was quite funny. My sister Diana told me that dad would do something funny or goofy to make her laugh every single day. We will miss you dad, but we will never forget you. Today we will share the life of you. Our beloved dad.
The family will receive guests at Gearhart Funeral Home, 11275 Foley Blvd, NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55448. The Funeral is Tuesday, July 15th at 11am, 10 am visitation, and lunch after the funeral.
