Adam was born November 30, 1965. He grew up in Oceanside, NY and graduated from Oceanside High School in 1983. In 1986, he began his career with the New York City Police Department. He worked at various precincts and details, but mostly the 77th in Bedford-Stuyvesant, receiving numerous honors and awards. He loved being a police officer and was regarded as one of the best by his fellow officers. After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, he worked at Ground Zero with recovery efforts. He retired from the police department shortly thereafter. Post-retirement from the NYPD, Adam most recently worked security at Northwest Elementary of the Amityville Union Free School District, greeting the children, parents and teachers with a smile and often a joke each day.
Adam was known for his carefree view of life. He loved to be goofy and wacky and make people laugh. He was one-of-a-kind and God broke the mold after Adam, all clichés, but Adam was anything but cliché. He was always unapologetically himself. He was larger than life and a physical presence. But under his tough guy appearance, he was a gentle giant. He had a big heart and was there to help anyone in need. He touched so many lives and was completely loved by his family and friends. He was the best dad who loved his daughters, family and friends immensely. He has left us far to soon and will be sorely missed by all.
Adam is survived by his daughters Ryann and Shannon; his mother Anne Butler; his sibling, John, Anne, Peter (Elizabeth), William (Meaghan) and Gregory (April); and his nieces and nephews, Sarah, Lucas, Liam, Ava, Alexander, Addison, Connor and Brady. He was predeceased by his father William, his niece Meghan and nephew Dylan.
