Gerald Aaronson Ph.D.

AARONSON, Gerald, Ph.D., (Yacov ben Aharon) died on March 20, 2016 in West Palm Beach, Fl, age 79, of Alzheimer’s Disease, formerly of Brookline, MA. He was born and raised in Borough Park, Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Harry A. and Esther (Chill) and brother of the late Elaine Cynthia Ginsberg and brother-in-law to Irving Ginsberg of Deerfield Beach, FL. He was the loving significant other of Claire Deveney for nearly 30 years. Devoted father of Michael of West Chester, Penn., and Jeffrey of Cherry Hill, N.J. Devoted grandfather of Michael and Lori’s children: Allie, 21, and Jason, 15, and Jeffrey and Eden’s children: Hayley, 19, Adam, 13, and with Jeffrey’s second wife, Susan, Levi, 3. Uncle of Amy (Ginsberg) and Eli Hendel of CA and NY, and Henry and Debby Ginsberg of West Hempstead, NY. Loving cousin of Danny and Abby Chill of Kiryat Ono, Israel, and Ophra (Chill) and the late David Weisberg of Cincinnati, Ohio. Lifelong friend of Don and Elsa Wilen of West Hempstead, N.Y., and good friend of David G. Margolis and his late wife, Eleanor, of Brookline, Mass. Gerry distinguished himself as a senior technical management executive with expertise in R&D, business acquisition and development, and marketing in medical research and education, telecommunications, utility and information systems industries. He had both commercial and military application experience in domestic and international markets. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn in 1957 and 1959 respectively, and earned his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1973. He was awarded two U.S. patents on CATV scrambling techniques.In reverse chronological order he was an independent management consultant to Massachusetts General Hospital NMR Center in developing and managing research and education programs; he also served as a Director of NMR Development and Assistant in Radiology as senior staff to the Director of the NMR Center responsible for new business ventures and education programs. He was ranked at Harvard Medical School as an instructor in radiology where he organized continuing medical education (CME) programs in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He worked for GTE for 20 years serving in GTE Government Systems Corporation, Strategic Systems Division as Director of Technology Planning in Westboro, Mass., at GTE Lenkurt, a fiber optics communications division as marketing director in Mountain View, Calif., and at GTE Communications Products in Stamford, Conn., as director of planning and fiber optic communications, at GTE Sylvania as a senior engineering specialist in Needham, Mass., and at GTE Laboratories as a senior scientist in Waltham, Mass. He began his career at RCA (Radio Corp. of America) in N.Y. as a senior member of its technical staff.He was a professional member of IEEE, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu. He wrote numerous papers in communications, solid state electronics, and fiber optics in recognized technical journals and magazines. He also wrote papers published on medical applications of imaging in cardiology.Gerry was an Orthodox Jew who practiced his religion conscientiously. Gerry was a lifelong member of Young Israel of West Hempstead, a former member of Young Israel of Brookline and of the Bostoner Rebee Shul. He was a member of the Anshei Chesed Congregation in Boynton Beach since 2004. Gerry loved his sons and Claire, family and friends, reading, mathematics, science, classical music, travel and photography. Gerry enriched the life of everyone he met and he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
