In his career, John enjoyed being a Chef. After first earning a Bachelors degree in Biology he then went on to study Culinary Arts and graduated from Culinary Institute of America. He worked as Executive Chef for Alitalia Airlines through Ogden Allied Caterers, and later for Casa Rustica Restaurant in Smithtown. One of his favorite jobs was as Executive Chef for Borenstein Caterers, running the numerous kitchens, creating and supplying on-board kosher meals for airlines nationwide. While employed for Borenstein John was sent to Tel Aviv, Israel, to train chefs there on how to create the same high quality kosher meals in their kitchens. He also delighted in working for Kozy Shack as Corporate Chef and Personal Chef for former CEO/Owner Vincent Gruppuso. During those days at Kozy Shack it was much more than a job. To John, it was like another family. While at Kozy Shack John was featured on QVC for their 12th anniversary with his amazing Mini Mousse Cake Samplers.
John’s fondest memories were of the many things he enjoyed doing with his father, especially getting up early and going fishing on their boat. He took pride in serving as an altar boy for Our Lady of Assumption Church in Copiague and was also a member of the Boy Scouts. John’s interests eventually shifted towards music. He played a Les Paul Guiter and later excelled on the drums. His interest in food was inspired by many years of helping with and enjoying his mothers' exceptional baking and also by working in the food service area during his first four years of college. John also had a passion for deep sea fishing...especially for Sharks.
