Born on April 8, 1935, in Queens and raised in Forest Hills, Marilyn graduated from Queens College, where she was an active member of the ZTA Sorority. In 1961, she established her home in Amityville, beginning a 64-year journey of local devotion, community, service, and friendship.
Marilyn was a woman of boundless energy and diverse talents. Professionally, she served as a substitute teacher in the Amityville Schools, worked for Macy’s during the holiday seasons, and channeled her organizational skills into roles as a travel agent and the owner of a catering business. Her creative spirit flourished through her gardening and her painting; she was a regular participant in BACCA-judged art shows.
A true lover of the water, Marilyn was a fixture of the Great South Bay for decades. She was a member of the Narrasketuck Yacht Club for nearly 70 years, most recently serving as its historian. She was an avid Lightning Class racer, traveling to clubs across the East Coast, and an active participant in the Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association (GSBYRA). Her maritime adventures included memorable voyages on the Schooner “Evening Star,” the 1976 Newport celebrations, the Around Long Island Race, and the Mayors Cup. Notably, she and her husband Bob completed a memorable six-month journey to Florida and back aboard the “Evening Star” prior to his death in 1982. She was also a 55-year member of the South Bay Cruising Club, serving on the Hospitality Committee, and a member of the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club.
Her commitment to service was reflected in her extensive community involvement. Marilyn was a Past President of the Amityville Historical Society and remained an active presence at their functions. She held memberships and leadership roles in the Junior League of Amityville, the Amityville Woman's Club, the Mary P. Myton Literary Society, the Spirit Group of St. Martin of Tours, and served as a Board Member of the Senior Center of Amityville.
Marilyn remained fit and full of vitality until her final days. The most common response to the news of her passing—"I just saw her"—serves as a beautiful testament to how present, engaged, and vibrant she remained throughout her long life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert T David (Bob); her second husband, Dale Brous; and her daughter, Nancy David Fullan. She is survived by her daughters, Lynda Lane and Michelle Flaherty (Thomas); and her son-in-law, Brian Fullan. She was the cherished grandmother of Jameson Lane (Gloria), Veronica Lane, Katelyn Flaherty Henry (Doug), Erin Flaherty, Kevin Fullan (Emily), and Ryan Fullan (Savannah). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Conor, Ottilia, Noah, Liam, Tommy, and Penelope, all of whom will deeply miss her spirit and strength.
