Sal was born the youngest of four boys to Charles and Matilda Zuccarello in Brooklyn, NY on January 11, 1947. His family moved to Copiague NY where Sal went to school and eventually married Donna Amerson and started his family. They relocated to Lindenhurst where he lived for over 36 years. In the 80s and 90s he ran his own clothing store, S&D Outlet and opened a subsequent store called Secondhand Rose that he managed with his wife and daughters Michelle and Lisa. In 1996 he changed careers and started Earthrite Textile and Recycling and through the donation program worked with organizations such as Breast Cancer Help and St. Joseph's Parish Outreach among many others. He retired in 2006 after his wife passed away and left his business in the care of his daughters Michelle and Danielle.
Sal was known by many in the Copiague and Lindenhurst areas and was easily recognized by his year round tan and vibrant white hair. He loved boating and being on the water, whether cruising in the channel, anchoring in the coves or enjoying an ice cream in Kismet. He loved to spend the summer days of his retirement in the Marina with friends barbequing or taking rides in his boat. He loved magic tricks and would always keep a deck of cards on hand to practice or show off his newest achievement. In the winter months, he enjoyed painting and going to dinners with family and friends and dreaming for summer and boat season.
In June of 2023, Sal moved with his eldest daughter to Newport NC to enjoy more of the summer weather and escape the New York winters. They spent the next three months settling in and exploring their new home and spending time with Sal's childhood friends Fran and Ron Huggler.
He is survived by his four loving daughters, Michelle Ventura, Lisa, Nicole Sencion, Danielle and his grandson Christopher. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Donna, brothers Charles, Joseph, and Robert and by his parents, Charles and Matilda.
