During his high school years, he stayed in the Bethany Monastery (Perunad) helping with their press (publicity) and chapel activities. This influenced him to have a great love for the Holy Church throughout the rest of his life.
He married Sosamma Abraham on September 16th, 1973. They immigrated to the United States to the city of Chicago in 1976. They were blessed with three children, Eugene, Naveen, and Shine. Kunjumon was one of the founding members of St. Gregorios Oak Park (now located in Elmhurst). In 1985, the family moved to Dallas, Texas. Kunjumon continued to be active in the church and was a founding member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Dallas, TX. He had the blessing of serving as the Church Secretary during the 25th Year Jubilee of the church which was celebrated in November 2018.
His name “Abraham” is very fitting, as he has two unique qualities of the Patriarch Abraham from Scripture - unwavering faith (Genesis 22) and gracious hospitality (Genesis 18). Kunjumon was known for his devout faith and love for the church. He took delight in prayer and worship in his daily life. He regularly served in the altar for church services. There were many times where Kunjumon would rely on his faith in God to help him and his family through difficult times.
In addition to his faith, Kunjumon had the gift of hospitality. He always nurtured his family as a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He not only took care of his relatives, but he considered anyone and everyone as part of his family. He took pleasure in hosting people and making them feel like part of his family. He loved to entertain guests at his home from esteemed clergy to little children. Throughout his life, he emphasized the value of community and the importance of staying connected with others.
Kunjumon was called to depart from us on Monday, December 24th, 2018 at 7:37pm surrounded by his family in prayer. Though he will be greatly missed, he will continue to remain in our hearts. May his memory be eternal.
