William (Bill) Shelley Whitney, age 63, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Bill was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After spending much of his childhood in Triploi, Libya, and Stavanger, Norway, he attended Admiral Farragut Academy in Florida. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Ocean Engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology and a Master’s of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Tulane University. After college, Bill began his career at Mobil/ExxonMobil before eventually finding his career home and work family at Blade Energy Partners. Bill was a Senior Engineering Advisor at Blade.
Bill was an expert in his field, working on drilling projects all over the world. He was also an avid survival gear enthusiast. He was rarely seen without wearing one of his many favorite hats. Bill is survived by his three daughters: Allison, Carolyn, and Mary Catherine, his siblings: Dave and Annabel, his mother: Brenda, and his step-mother: Brenda. Bill’s first grandchild and namesake, William, was born on October 5th and is happy and healthy. Bill is also survived by nieces, nephews, his cat Dee Dee, and many beloved friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will take place at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell, TX, on Saturday, November 13th at 10AM. Light refreshments (and Bill’s favorite, brownies) will be served. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s name to the charity “It’s a Sensory World”.
