Burdette Carr Graham Jr., 80, of Irving, TX, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024 in Dallas, TX after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born in Corpus Christi, TX on November 3, 1943 to Burdette Carr Graham, Sr. and Athol Anderson Graham. He was the grandson of Corpus Christi oilman and civic leader John Thomas (Tom) Graham and great-grandson of port pilot Capt. Andrew “Andy” Jackson Anderson.
Burdette was a graduate of W. B. Ray High School and attended Del Mar College, both in Corpus Christi. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1965-1971. He often joked that it seemed like more hurricanes came ashore on the south Texas coast during those 6 years than any other time period (only a slight exaggeration).
Burdette was a longtime member of the Corpus Christi Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
He met the love of his life, Sherry Robertson Graham, in 1983 when they both worked at Charter Savings. They were married February 2, 1985. Bowling, fishing, boating and cruising were their favorite activities. They truly missed the ocean and bays when they relocated to the Dallas area in the early 1990’s.
Burdette was an avid sports enthusiast and loved to watch his favorite teams: the Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros. He and Sherry had season tickets for Texas Longhorns football games for 20 years. Burdette was an accomplished bowler, earning many awards for league high average, game and series. He achieved a highest single game score of 297. He carried a 200+ average well into his 70’s. Burdette also loved to cruise. He and Sherry went on over 50 cruises together. They especially loved cruising to Stockholm, Sweden, The Hawaiian Islands, Alaska, St. Thomas USVI and through the Panama Canal. He enjoyed cruising the Caribbean with his family and treated them to many wonderful vacations for which they will be forever grateful.
Burdette worked for First American Corp. as a Title Examiner at the time of his retirement in 2009.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Burdette and Athol Graham; sister, Sally Graham Bush and brother-in-law Melvyn Mason Bush.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 39 years, Sherry Robertson Graham of Irving, TX; son Trey Graham and wife Allison of Lafayette, LA; grandson Ian Graham of Lafayette, LA; nephew Craig Bush and wife Mary of San Antonio, TX; niece Stacy Bush of Austin, TX; sister-in-law Debbie Robertson Jackson and husband David of Cypress, TX; nieces Jennifer Jackson Cox and husband Russell and Brittany Jackson Romero and husband Adrian, all of Corpus Christi, TX; nephew Dave Jackson of Frisco, TX; cousin Knox Graham and wife Karen of Burnet, TX; numerous grand nephews/nieces and friends.
