

He graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. After college, he worked for Congressman Nick Lampson. He later began his career with the United States Secret Service in 2000. He ended his career as a Senior Special Agent after 25 years of service.
In those 25 years, he was assigned to the Los Angeles Field Office, where he worked Bank Fraud and Counter Surveillance. He worked in the Austin Field Office, where he took on a variety of assignments. In Dallas, he was part of the George W. Bush Protective Division. While in the Dallas Field Office, he oversaw Special Projects on behalf of the Special Agent in Charge, Hiring and Recruitment for the Dallas District and he conducted Physical Fitness Assessments for Special Agent Applicants. He was also a Firearms Instructor, Physical Fitness Coordinator, and he mentored new Special Agents in Protective and Investigative methods. During his 25 years, he served the following presidents: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. He also served a multitude of foreign dignitaries and domestic leaders.
Derrick created a successful photography business with a large portfolio, where he lived out his passion of “capturing beauty and defining moments through [his] lens.” In addition, he was an esteemed pageant judge.
Derrick was preceded in death by his father, James LeBlanc, II, and his brother, James LeBlanc, III.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 25 years, Jo Mendoza LeBlanc; Mother, Patricia Honore LeBlanc; daughter Carla Mendoza-Lopez and husband, Jason; son, Jordan LeBlanc; grandchildren, Zola and Zion Lopez; sister, Veronica Babino and husband, Ray.
He is also survived by a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends with whom he was very close.
