It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Carlton Doe III, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. After a valiant two and a half year battle with cancer, he passed away on January 16, 2025, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 65.
Carlton Doe was born on February 26, 1959 in Glendale, California to Carlton (Jr.) and Margaret Doe. He was a stalwart and diligent soul who dedicated himself to both his family and his many interests. A proud Eagle Scout, Carlton demonstrated early on his commitment to service and personal growth. He carried this dedication through every aspect of his life, from his education to his work and family.
After graduating John Burroughs High School in Burbank, Carlton served a two year full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Belgium speaking French from 1978-1980. Upon returning home, Carlton attended Brigham Young University where he received a bachelor’s in International Relations. Shortly before finishing his studies, he met his sweetheart, Catherine Candland. They were married in the Logan Utah Temple on June 22, 1984 and went on to have four children.
Despite having a degree in International Relations, Carlton continually found himself drawn to computer systems and information technology. In 2000, he took a job at Informix Software, which soon became part of IBM, where he would spend the remainder of his career. Over time, Carlton became one of the worldwide leading experts for Informix databases and was a founding member of the International Informix User Group (IIUG), serving as its president from 1996-1997 and on the board of directors until his passing. He was an accomplished author, publishing five technical books and numerous articles.
Carlton had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He had an undeniable passion for travel and exploring new places and cultures. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly through his love of scuba diving, hiking, precision shooting, and countless walks with grandkids. He was an emergency HAM radio operator and member of the Flower Mound Community Emergency Response Team. Above all, Carlton loved to teach and help others which he demonstrated through his work and volunteer service for his church congregation.
In addition to providing unlimited “technical support” for family and friends, Carlton became a source of constant strength and wisdom since his cancer diagnosis. Over his last years, he taught those around him how to accept life’s adversities without letting them define you. He showed us how to look for God’s hand in our lives and to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Carlton’s legacy is one of hard work, persistence, service, and love. He will be remembered for his integrity, passion for helping others, and the countless ways he impacted the lives of those around him.
Carlton is survived by his wife, Catherine Doe, his children, Whitney (Tyler) Garrett, Cameron (Kristen) Doe, Mikhael (Jason) Baird, Ethan Doe, and his 6 grandchildren. Also left behind are his parents, Harry Carlton Doe Jr. and Margaret Sylvester Reed, and sister, Sheila (Clark) Hansen.
A funeral service to honor Carlton’s life will be held on Saturday January 25th at 10:00 AM located at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (902 Chinn Chapel Rd in Highland Village, TX), with a viewing the evening before from 6:00-8:00 PM at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home (400 Freeport Pkwy in Coppell, TX). Saturday’s service will be broadcast here for those who are unable to attend in person. www.youtube.com/@TheLewisvilleTexasStake
