Jared Curran, 27, passed away in a car accident on Saturday, September 19, 2015 on a country road outside of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Jared was an accomplished nuclear engineer, a proud alumni of Texas A&M and a good natured soul who was friends to many.
Jared grew up in Coppell, Texas and graduated from Pinkerton Elementary, Coppell Middle School West and Coppell High School. Jared was a member of the Coppell High School band and played the tuba. Somewhat shorter than the other tuba players, it was joked that you could spot him by the dip in the tuba line. He played with the Coppell HS band at the St Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland.
Jared was a gifted musician who also played drums and guitar. His favorite was to play Stevie Ray Vaughn songs on guitar and he was a master at it.
Jared attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 2011 from the Nuclear Engineering program.
Jared, loved his time at A&M and made it a point to catch up with his friends every time that he got back to Texas and would often be invited to activities from DFW to College Station, to Houston. Invitations poured in for him whenever he returned to his beloved Texas.
Jared always kept his friends and family close as well as making them a priority in his life. Known for his unselfish nature, it was common for Jared to do things like routinely driving his roommate 3 hours round trip to and from the hospital, when he was recovering from a motorcycle accident.
Jared was also athletic. He was proud to have gone through the rigorous training to become a certified fire fighter as part of his responsibilities at his nuclear plant. Jared enjoyed martial arts and was belted in Jiu-Jitsu. This spring, he went rock climbing with his cousins and they were amazed at his abilities to scale every hill.
Jared became a certified nuclear engineer and worked at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Plant in Brattleboro, Vermont, where he graduated top in his training class. Jared’s intelligence and his inquisitive nature led to his becoming an expert in the systems at Vermont Yankee. He would enjoy visiting the control room where more senior people would sometimes ask him to explain the theories behind certain subsystems. Jared loved the plant and delighted in taking his parents on a personal guided tour last year of the facility.
This spring, Jared was accepted into the training program at Susquehanna Nuclear facility outside of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Among the youngest to be admitted into the Senior Reactor Operator training program, Jared was on a two year path to accomplish this certification and be the operator in charge of the control room. Jared was quickly adopted by the workers at his new facility due to his engaging personality and intelligence.
He is survived by his mother, Sandra Curran, his father, Stephen Curran, his older brother Shawn Curran and his younger sister, Courtney Curran. He is also survived by his grandparents, Gerry and Joe Petrov.
