José V. Chapa was born on the 3rd of December 1937. From childhood, Joe was known for the twinkle in his eye and dimple in his chin under an ever-present, mischievous grin. Anyone that knew him well, also recognized that he was a fiercely loyal son, brother, husband, Daddy, Papa Joe and friend with an incredibly tender heart.
Those celebrating Joe’s remarkable life on earth, and his impact on their own, include his wife, Lourdes, daughters Norma and Monica, grandchildren Nina and Harrison, son in law Scott and grandson in law Brody - in addition to numerous family and friends. Undoubtedly his Heavenly Welcome Home party included his grandson - Ryan, parents, brothers, nephew and dearest childhood friend.
Knowing that education was key to the life Joe and Lulu wanted to offer their family, he pursued a college education while holding down a job and helping raise his girls. Joe’s tenacity eventually earned him a degree in Civil Engineering – which was always a source of great pride for him and his family.
Joe had the privilege of serving in the US Army during peace time. He continued to serve his country via employment with the US Corp of Engineers and Department of Labor – specifically OSHA. Upon retirement he and his wife served their community through years of volunteer service at St. Ann’s, their local parish.
Wherever he went, Joe never met a stranger. The proverbial glass, in his estimation, was always half full of the most refreshing beverage. His cheerful disposition and gratitude for life’s blessings served him well- which prepared him to bravely face an illness that rendered him at the mercy of a team of relative strangers. These dedicated strangers who provided such compassionate care, soon became affectionately known as Team Chapa, by Joe’s appreciative family.
Joe’s release from this life was a gift in a variety of ways… He was home, napping, with his loving bride, of almost 60 years, sitting, devotedly, by his side. Joe was / always will be a blessing to those fortunate enough to know him. His family is eternally grateful that God chose to call him Home in such a merciful manner.
