Nirmala was born on November 15, 1972 at Thrissur as the oldest of two siblings to Kythakot Joseph George and Mary George. She completed her early education at Nirmala School, Aluva, and her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from KMC, Manipal. After graduation, she started teaching at Vinayaka Medical College, Salem and then served as a nurse at a number of hospitals. In May1999, she married her beloved husband Felix ( Jojee ).
Nirmala and Jojee moved to the States in 2006, initially settling in Detroit, Michigan. She worked at Henry Ford hospital for three years before moving to Dallas, Texas in 2009 Nov, buying their dream home in Irving, and becoming an active member of her new parish, St. Alphonsa Catholic Church, Coppell. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Baylor Hospital, Dallas, then at Corvel Corp.
Nirmala and Jojee’s life took a turn when she fell ill with diabetes and associated complications. While searching for finding meaning in suffering, she fell in love with her maker, her Father in Heaven. Nevertheless, she kept serving others as a nurse till Feb 2020. Everyone who met and came close with her could see that she understood the meaning of suffering in life and took all sufferings in stride, displaying grace and faith under pressure to all. She did this with the full support of her husband and sweet-heart Jojee, who stood by her side, sharing her every pain.
Towards the end of her sufferings, she knew her time was nearing to leave this earth. She started preparing her beloved husband, family members, and friends so they could accept her passing calmly. She was among the few who had the blessing to be prepared and at peace to respond to the call of the Lord.
Nirmala was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. She lived her life to the fullest, fighting for what she believed. She was a role model of Christian suffering, enduring without complaint and with a smile. Even though her body was weak, her mind and heart were strong. She especially loved children and was an inspiration to them. She will be missed but never forgotten.
