You could always count on Richard to help with projects small and big. He was a master at assembling wedding invitations, building IKEA furniture or bird houses seen on Pinterest, and putting together party decorations for his granddaughter's first Birthday party. In one month, his youngest daughter, Erin, gets married and he won't be there to toast her. The day before he passed away, Erin married her husband at Richard's bedside in a beautiful and bittersweet ceremony so that his spirit could fill them both.
Four years ago, Richard and his wife Brenda, were the last ones on the dance floor signifying their marriage of 30 years. He proposed to her by asking her if this ring he bought fit on her finger and brought along a tub of ice cream to celebrate the moment. He started every work seminar by telling his clients how she was the love of his life.
Two years ago, he held his granddaughter, Emilie Naughton, for the first time. He would FaceTime her everyday, check Flickr religiously for new photos, and search the Internet for toys and clothes she would like. Her laugh never ceased to make him smile and now her laughter will remind us of him.
On Sunday, August 16, Richard left this world. He knew his girls would be well taken care of. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Wong and his two daughters, Charlene Wong Naughton and Erin Wong.
Thank you to all of you that have reached out to his family with your thoughts and prayers. Thank you to all of you who have helped them even in the smallest of ways. And when you see his girls, please don't ask them about why his life was cut short. Instead, ask them to regale you with stories about Richard's many and random EBay purchases or his love of cats, ice cream, and basketball. Ask them to share their memories of the wonderful man who was their whole life.
