Sharon Wallace Wimberly

Sharon Wallace Wimberly of Coppell, Texas passed away on December 25, 2025 at the age of 71 following a motor vehicle accident. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, Texas 75019.

Sharon was born on October 21, 1954, on the outskirts of Casablanca, Morocco at Nouasseur Air Base, to Rufus Leon Wallace Sr. and Mary Catherine Wallace (Harkleroad). She grew up in Waco, Texas and graduated from Waco High School in 1972. She then attended Southwest Texas State University and Baylor University, earning both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in sociology.

Sharon married Claude Warren Wimberly of San Antonio, Texas in 1981. She and Claude were experienced and enthusiastic world travelers. They traveled together frequently in their marriage, and then with their two children, until Claude’s passing in 2004.

Sharon was a voracious reader and never stopped learning. In addition to fiction novels, she enjoyed nonfiction on psychology, the social sciences, and geopolitics. Sharon also greatly enjoyed long phone conversations with friends and family. She loved animals dearly and had numerous dogs and cats over her life, with a particular fondness for toy and miniature poodles.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Claude; her parents Rufus and Mary Catherine; and her uncle Dr. Herbert Neal Harkleroad.

She is survived by her son Travis Wimberly and his wife Glenda Garcia of Austin, Texas; her daughter Tessa Duke (Wimberly) and her husband Michael of Argyle, Texas; her brother Rufus Leon Wallace Jr. and his wife Brooke of Waco, Texas; and her grandsons Allister Wimberly and Miles Wimberly. Also surviving her are four stepgrandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and numerous wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Shriners Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Justice Reform, World Vision, or the Animal Welfare Institute.
