Thomas J. DeAngelis, age 95, peacefully departed this life at his residence on April 7, 2024, in Coppell, TX. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 18, 1928, to Anna (Steo) and Aniello DeAngelis, Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers—Mark and Aniello Jr.—his sister Sophia, and his cherished infant daughter, Ava Marie. He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Eva, along with his children: Jan Berea (Jay), Neil (Kathleen), Cindy Grossman (Neil), and Maria Tsettos (Denny), as well as his brother Ronald. Additionally, he leaves behind five adoring grandchildren: Thomas, Nicholas, Christian, Niko, and Ava.
Thomas honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War before transitioning to a distinguished career in the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Rising to the rank of Detective First Grade, Thomas spoke fondly of his tenure, often recounting his numerous commendations earned during his service.
Thomas adored his family, especially his wife Eva. Together, they were among the first real estate flippers, buying and fixing up numerous homes across New York, New Jersey, and Florida. Their success was such that they could have had their own TV show! Thomas had a variety of hobbies, including cooking, EATING, gardening, fishing, and singing. He had a beautiful voice and a deep love for music, particularly the classics by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, and Al Martino. He also loved traveling by car across America, a tradition he and Eva upheld by taking their family on yearly vacations from New York to California for four straight years. Eventually, they retired to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where they happily lived for three decades before settling in Las Colinas, Texas.
Thomas’ family would like to thank St. Joseph’s Village, Coppell, TX. The loving, dedicated staff and fellow residents who made them feel at home.
A funeral Mass will be held celebrating his life on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Chapel, 1205 E. Sandy Lake Road, Coppell, TX 75019. Interment to follow at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75019.
