

Barbara Kelley, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 14th, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family. She is survived by her husband, Randy Kelley, and her children: Linda and Michael Hengst, Carl and Veta McLaughlin, and Audra and Johnny Farias. Barbara’s family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in supporting and celebrating each of them through every stage of life.
She was a loving grandmother to Taylor Jackson and her husband, Daniel, Madison Hengst, JonMichael McLaughlin and his wife, Gabby, Blake McLaughlin and his wife, Claire, Jenna McLaughlin, Nevan Farias, and Gavin Farias. Her joy continued to grow with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Brielle and Benson McLaughlin, and Cameron Mae Jackson.
She is preceded in death by her father, Henry Carl Herbst, her mother, Audrey Mae, and her brother, Donald Carl.
Barbara was also a passionate English teacher, whose love of language and literature inspired countless students over the years. She had a gift for encouraging young minds, helping them discover their voices, and showing them the beauty and power of words. Many of her students remember her not only as an educator, but as a mentor who believed in them and cared deeply about their success. She was the embodiment of “Once a Raider, always a Raider.”
Beyond the classroom, Barbara was an avid supporter of the band, faithfully cheering on performances and taking immense pride in the accomplishments of the Raider band and the Copperas Cove band. She took great joy in making hundreds of brownies for her band kids. Her enthusiasm and encouragement were a constant source of energy and joy to those around her.
Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the care she extended to everyone around her. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel valued and at home. Whether spending time with family, enjoying a good conversation, or sharing memories, she found happiness in connection and with the people in her life. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
