Bobby Lou Clayton

Viewing will be held at Crawford-Bowers, Copperas Cove on Friday, November 17, 2017 with visitation from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Funeral will be held at First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Bobby will be laid to rest at Central Texas State Veterans' Cemetery on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM.

Bobby was born January 22, 1924 in Hamlin, TX to Posey and Ora Jane Ray. She was 1 of 9 children. In 1942 she saw an advertisement in the paper for a position at Camp Hood, Killeen, Texas. She left her family at 19 years old and moved to the civilian barracks at the Camp. She made enough money that she was able to support herself and still send some home.

It was at the Calvary Stables that she met her future husband Don Clayton. They were married on September 12, 1946 and had 2 children, Ray Don Clayton and Janice Ann (Clayton) Wierzbicki. They settled on their ranch in 1962, where they were both right at home. Bobby worked for Camp Hood until it became Fort Hood and she reached the civilian rank of GS 11. After she retired from Fort Hood, she could be seen as a staple presence at Clayton Automotive.

Bobby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove since 1963. She was also an active member of the Altrusa Club.

Bobby outlived her entire family with the exception of her children. She is survived by her children Ray Don and Jane Clayton and Janice and Tom Wierzbicki, grandchildren Todd and Susanna Clayton, Crystal Clayton and Lorraine Garnett, Stephanie Wierzbicki and Michael and Skylar Wierzbicki. Great grandchildren Cy and Myla Clayton.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Copperas Cove Education Foundation 703 West Avenue D Copperas Cove, Texas 76522.
