

Our beloved Carmen Aracelis Melendez, 53, resident of Mexia Supported Living Center, went to be with our Lord on June 15, 2017, after suffering from a brief illness. Carmen was born on September 11, 1963, in Columbia, South Carolina to Jose and Maria (Silva) Melendez, a military family stationed in Fort Jackson. She was the youngest of five children. The family was stationed in several cities before settling down in Copperas Cove, Texas, and Carmen was eventually placed at the Mexia Supported Living Center where she resided for over thirty years.
Carmen is survived by her parents, her two sisters: Angie (Michael Nader) Grandusky, and Wanda (George) Massoni; her brother: Jose (Cathy) Melendez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carmen was preceded in death by her brother, Eric Melendez.
A graveside service will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, June 23, at 10:00 am. A special memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, at the Mexia Supported Living Center.The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Mexia State Supported Living Center and Baylor Scott and White Hospital (Temple) for the wonderful care they provided to Carmen over the years.
