

Christopher (Chris) John Hurtle, 55 of Kempner Texas passed away following a long term illness on August 14, 2014. He was born in Escondido, Ca on December 25, 1958 to parents Glen & Virginia Hurtle. He graduated from Kennedy High & Barstow High School in Barstow, Ca in 1976. He was married to the former Bonita Haynes of Lebanon, OH, May 23, 1981.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Bonita, his oldest daughter, Amanda, her husband, Robinson Lucas, his only surviving grandchild Aleesya Marie Lucas, Age 5, (Angel Marie Lucas) deceased before birth), his youngest daughter, Johnna and her husband, SGT Geoffrey Grimes of Fort Benning, GA and parents, Earl and Virginia Herron of Lake City, FL., his brothers: David, Phil and Joseph Hurtle.
In 1976, he joined the United States Army where he completed 20 years of service as a Staff Sergeant, Field Artillery. His awards and distinction include but are not limited to meritorious service medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaves, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaves, Army Good Conduct with 6 knots, National Defense Award, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbons, Army Service, Overseas Service Ribbons Badges Include: Expert Riflemen’s Badge, Wheeled Vehicle Driver Badge, and French Fortege Awarded to 3ID. He continued his service to this country as a Department of Defense (DOD) Employer out of Fort Hood, TX for over 15 years obtaining Deputy Commander (GS14) AT 40TH Army Field Support Battalion (AFSBN). In addition to his DOD service; Chris continued his community involvement and support with Hill Country Game Truck.

A Viewing will be held at Crawford-Bowers in Copperas Cove on Thursday August 21, 2014 between 2-5pm. The funeral will take place Friday August 22, 2014 at 10am at the Killeen Veterans Cemetery where his family and friends will lay him to rest with full Military Honors Service.
