Darlene Ryan was born May 17, 1946, to Clarence Johnson and Natalie (Bushnell) Johnson in Mar Vista, Ca. Shortly after graduating Venice High School, she met the love of her life, Michael. In a proposal as unconventional as the couple themselves, Michael, despite being 20 at the time, had to ask his parents’ permission for Darlene’s hand in marriage. The two were wed 09/12/1964 and would spend the next 60 years happily married and still madly in love.
In 1970, Darlene and Michael settled in Copperas Cove, where they raised their three boys: Michael Jr, Sean, and TC. Darlene had a warm and gentle spirit, with the ability to make just about anyone feel as though they were family. Whether a friend of the family or an exchange student from afar, Darlene welcomed those around her with unmatched love and support.
Many long-term residents of Copperas Cove will fondly remember the extraordinary efforts Darlene put forth during the Christmas season, decorating her yard in an immaculate fashion and lovingly coercing Michael to play Santa for the children of the neighborhood. If there was one thing Darlene excelled at, it was her ability to decorate. Whether it was cakes, faux-food, stained glass, or children’s games for the church, Darlene was unmatched in her creative and artistic ability. Darlene was a devote Catholic who spent much of her time volunteering for the Church, aiding them with her creative talents. Full of wit and sweet as honey, Darlene will be sorely missed by those who has the pleasure of knowing her.
Darlene passed peacefully in her home January 19, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by husband, Michael; children Michael Jr, Sean and TC; grandchildren Michaela, Justin, Kennedi, Mia, Tanner and Drake; great grandchildren Sawyer and Drew; siblings Denise and David.
A Funeral Mass for Darlene will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1001 Georgetown Rd, Copperas Cove, TX 76522. Graveside Service will be held on January 30, 2025 at 10 AM in the Central Texas State Veteran Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
