Edward (Ed) Randolph Jones was born on May 20, 1940, in South Norfolk, Virginia to Herbert and Nina Jones. He was one of thirteen children. He joined the military at eighteen years of age eager to serve his country starting as a Marine and then proudly serving over 21 years in the Army retiring as a staff sergeant. He served in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam as well as domestic tours of duty. But once he was in Texas, he did not want to leave. After retiring from the Army, he spent 23 years in civil service.
Ed and his wife, Louise, were inseparable before her passing three years ago. When they first met, Ed shared his passion for fishing with Louise. They would go out on their boat and fish until early morning and both would go to work after that. For years, they liked spending time at Georgetown Lake in their RV. When at home, they liked working in their yard and took pride in its appearance, especially in springtime with flowers blooming everywhere.
Golf was a hobby that Ed indulged in without Louise. Ed loved playing golf with friends anytime of the year in Copperas Cove and Lampasas, even hitting a hole-in-one in 2004. Ed was also exceptionally good at playing pool. He mastered the game and won tournaments as well.
Church was an important part of their lives. Ed spent many years as an usher and greeter at the Methodist church in Lampasas. He delighted in connecting with people.
Ed was outgoing and never met a stranger. He always greeted everyone with a smile along with a handshake and a hug. He was never shy about engaging in conversation with anyone.
Ed was always in a positive mood and when diagnosed with cancer he would say he was okay with it and when it is his time to go to heaven, he would be okay. He said he had a wonderful life and no regrets.
Ed is predeceased by his loving wife of almost fifty years, Louse Jones, his stepson David Heintzelman, and Ed’s parents and nine of his siblings. He is survived by his brother, Larry Jones, sister Sandy O’Brian, and sister Diane Gilbert. Other surviving family members include stepson Mike Heintzelman, stepdaughter, Wanda York, his ex-wife and longtime friend Barbara Blevins, his daughters, Amy Jones and Penny Kowalchick, and countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Ed was a resident of Stoney Brook of Copperas Cove for the past year where he was able to develop new friendships with other residents and the caring staff. Ed’s family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the Stoney Brook staff for their superior professional care while maintaining a loving home-like environment.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 17th, 2025 at 10am at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a church or favorite charity would be a kind way to honor his life.
