Nita Mae Harbin Higgins

Mrs. Nita Higgins died early Saturday morning, April 27th, 2013 at home with her family by her side.

Nita Mae Harbin Higgins was born on October 28th, 1948 in Lubbock, TX to her parents J.E. (Jude) Harbin and Hattie Lee Nowak Harbin. A graduate of Lubbock High School in 1966; she attended both Texas Tech University and Central Texas College.

Nita Mae, known as Ms. Nita to so many, has been the Owner/Director of Alpha Time and Alpha Time Too Daycares since 1985. She loved providing a safe and nurturing environment, complete with daily treats for the children.

An active professional in the community, Nita was included in the Who’s Who National Registry of Executives and Professionals, the National, Texas, and Central Texas Associations for the Education of Young Children, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove. She was a former President of Altrusa, a Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce board member, and the Copperas Cove Representative for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the American Cancer Board.

Survivors include her husband Terry Lee Higgins of Copperas Cove, TX; three children, daughters Shawna Gibson Cassell of Copperas Cove and Misty Gibson Rowe of Seagoville, TX, and son Justin Edward Gibson of Austin, TX; three granddaughters, Courtney and Kattie Rowe of Seagoville, TX, and Charlotte Cassell of Copperas Cove, TX. Also, one brother Larry Harbin and his wife Karla of Crane, TX and their two sons Robert and Chris Harbin; one sister Sandra Harbin Smith and husband W. Mark of Lockney, TX and their son Kory Smith; two step-children, six step-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends that loved her dearly.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8pm Tuesday April 30, 2013 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
