

Obert was born October 13, 1940 at home near Mohall, ND, the third of six children of Albert O. and Mabel C. Gilseth. He was raised on the family farm just North of Mohall and received all of his elementary and secondary education in the Mohall Public School system. He graduated from Mohall High School in 1959. He was active in sports and FFA while in school and served as FFA president in his senior year. Following high school, he left the Mohall area and obtained work in the oil field near New Town, ND where he met his wife Evonne Brunsell. They were married in Mohall, ND on August 26, 1961 in a civil ceremony. They moved to Keene, ND where their first child, a daughter Christine Anna was born on June 21, 1962. In February 1963 he received his draft summons, and proudly enlisted in the Army. He attended basic training at Fort Ord, CA, and attended advanced training at Fort Gordon, GA where he graduated near the top of his class as a Field Radio Repairman. He had a varied military career and served in numerous overseas and stateside locations including Honolulu, HA, where his daughter Shirley Evonne was born on February 22, 1965, and his son Eugene Obert was born on February 28, 1966: CuChi Vietnam: Hanau, W. Germany where a second son Gregory Alan was born on May 1, 1968: Fort Hood, TX: Bangkok, Thailand: Fort Belvoir, VA: Ahwaz, Iran: Fort Carson, CO: Ft Lee, VA: Nuremburg, W. Germany: He completed his military career stationed at Fort Hood where he retired in 1983. He then fulfilled his lifelong dream of building his own home in the country. He completed the family project in 9 months and they officially moved in to the new home in April of 1984. He then attended college at Central Texas College where he studied Heating, Air Conditioning and Appliance repair. He opened his own business known as” Allgees Heat & Air” which he operated for the next 15 years.
Obert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove and was proud to have been confirmed there by Pastor Bernie Schey. He was also an avid Ham Radio Operator and had his own Air Force MARS station at one time. He loved to travel and camp in his RV but did not get to fulfill his bucket list dream of traveling the US and seeing all of the National Parks. He was especially proud of their 50th anniversary trip to Alaska and Hawaii in 2011.
Those who shared his life are: his wife of 52 years Evonne, daughter Shirley Wimett (Charles), sons Eugene “Gene”, (Dawn) and Gregory ‘Greg” (Debbie), 11 grandchildren: Michelle Tacker, Nicholas Wimett, Jeffrey Gilseth (Maria), Travis Gilseth, Kolby Gilseth, Kaitlyn Gilseth, Kelsi Gilseth, Sueann Roesner (Tom), James Rhymes (Jennifer), Angela Williams (Kyle), David Long. 11 Great Grandchildren: Hunter& Dylan Gilseth, Isabelle Gilseth, Kason Gilseth, Brooklyn, Brailyn, and Briley Judd, Augustis Rhymes, Alexis Tinsdale, Kyle and Hank Williams. Sisters: Mildred (Harvey) Brekhus, Bismarck, ND, Marvel Malpert, Fargo, ND. Carol Sedam, New Braunfels, TX. Brothers: Virgil (Sondra) Gilseth. Kenmare, ND, Bruce (Marilyn) Gilseth, Mohall, ND. Sisters in law Judy Nichols. Gillette, WY. and Darlene (John) Ehrmantraut, Bismarck, ND and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Mabel Gilseth, daughter Christine Anna Gilseth, Father and Mother-in-law Edwin and Agnes Brunsell and Grandson Virgel Gilseth.
Obert will be laid to rest on 17 January 2014 in Central Texas Veterans Cemetery following an 11 am funeral service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Copperas Cove, TX. A time of visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
